Volunteers needed to count stuff

January 23, 2008 · No Comments

In the last post we shared what we’re doing next week with the place audits. Fun stuff.

Well, we’re also looking for volunteers to help us do some counts of activity at four locations in the neighborhood. Basically, if you enjoy standing around chatting with friendly DTNA people while you count pedestrians, dogs, strollers and other stuff on our streets for an hour, then we need you.

We’re looking for people who can help next week on Monday, Wednesday or Thursday from 7:45-9 am and/or Saturday, February 2nd from 1-2:15 pm.

Please e-mail Kit Hodge if you’re available and interested. kitrhodge [at] gmail [dot] com.

Place audits next week!

January 23, 2008 · No Comments

Dubuce Triangle residents are invited to join members of the DTNA Transportation Committee next week to conduct place audits of four locations in the neighborhood. Please join us!

  •  Tuesday, January 29th from 5:30-6:45 pm
  • Saturday, February 2nd from noon to 1:15 pm

We will meet at the Duboce Park N-Judah station (Duboce and Noe Streets) and go from there. Rain cancels. Donuts freely available. And expect to have a good time. If you’re interested in taking part in this evaluation of Duboce and Church Streets, but can’t make these times, please e-mail Kit Hodge. She’ll talk you through the process. You can also e-mail her with any questions about any of this. Check out this great report from Portland for how other people have used the place audit approach to developing plans for great streets and public spaces. (See page 35 for the place audit form. Note that you need the express permission of Project for Public Spaces to use this form.)

First Committee Meeting

January 16, 2008 · No Comments

The new Duboce Triangle Neighborhood Association Transportation Committee met last night for the first time. About eight volunteers showed up to plan for how to approach the three projects currently planned for our neighborhood. The volunteers brought a wide range of skills, from transportation planning and landscape architect to particular perspectives, like long-time residency, young family and new residents. It was a nice mixture of expertise and perspectives. A number of other committee members were not able to attend, but we look forward to adding them to the mix.

The group agreed on approaching the project planning from the perspective of “Placemaking.” As our next steps, we will be doing place audits of the project locations on Duboce, Noe and Church. These audits will help us get beyond our personal perspectives of these locations to fully understand how the full diversity of our amazing neighborhood is using these streets. We will definitely need volunteers to help us with these audits, and will be posting information on that here. Please volunteer to help. It should be a lot of fun; basically a chance to people- and dog-watch while munching on donuts and chatting with your neighbors.

Hello neighbors! We’ve just launched this blog about transportation projects in Duboce Triangle, San Francisco, to help you stay on top of three new projects in the neighborhood:

  1. Train track replacement and station improvements at Church and Duboce Streets.
  2. Train track replacement and station improvements at Duboce and Noe Streets.
  3. Traffic calming on Noe Street near 14th Street.

Check out the Current Projects page for more information about these projects, and let us know what you want to see improved at these locations.
